円に内接する三角形を想像してみる。その三角形が徐々に膨張する。接点を突いて頂点がはみ出る。七里知子の絵はそんな円と内接する三角形だった。円は「美しい」。三角は「なじみのないもの」である。病の時の前後を経てあらわれてきた新作ではこの円を三角形の頂点が貫き、穴を開けている。美しい絵にその穴から外が、えもしれない底なし沼が覗き、目が無限定の虚空へ投げだされる。沼、虚空は絵を暗くするが、この暗さは七里の絵の美しさを照らすバックライトだ。（企画者：大倉宏）
Imagine a triangle inscribed within a circle. That triangle gradually expands. Its vertices push against the contact points and protrude outward. Tomoko Shichiri’s paintings were like such triangles inscribed within circles. The circle is “beautiful.” The triangle is “something unfamiliar.” In the new works that emerged after her illness, the triangle’s apex pierces this circle, opening a hole. Through that hole in the beautiful painting, the outside―perhaps a bottomless swamp―peeks through, and the eye is cast into boundless emptiness. The swamp, the void, darkens the painting, but this darkness is the backlight illuminating the beauty of Shichiri’s work. (Exhibition Planner: Hiroshi Okura)
